Alice Brown Principal of AAB architects: 2000- present After completing her architectural education, Alice gained a wide range of experience in a number of renowned design practices. At van Heyningen and Haward Architects, she worked on school projects at design and construction stages. At Eric Parry Associates she worked on the Stockley Park and Chiswick business park developments. Her subsequent post at MacCormac Jamieson Prichard, lasting several years, involved her in work on the Jubilee Line extension, office development, social housing and high-end private house design. Success in a competition in Sweden was the occasion for Alice to set up her first practice along with Robert Loader. The Swedish competition - to reuse a historic prison building for housing - proved the catalyst for the practice's specialisation in modern refurbishment and enlargement of existing buildings. Loader and Brown was included in the Architecture Foundation's New Architects in 1998, in which they were cited as ? serious, sensitive players'. In 2000 AAB architects was established to develop the practice in new directions, including work with schools, children's play and landscape projects. As a member of London Pro-help, Alice worked collaboratively with a range of professional firms, including lawyers, accountants and construction professionals to assist charities and community groups develop and fund a variety of projects, some of which have now been completed. Alice is concerned about the preservation of our architectural heritage, and is a member of the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings and the Twentieth Century Society. She lives in Kentish Town, where she is involved in the local Transition Town group, helping to promote an awareness of sustainability. Qualifications Professional Education |
