In this invited ideas competition for the redevelopment of Delawyk Crescent, a 1950’s estate in Dulwich, a masterplan was developed for improving the access to and through the site, combined with a long-term strategy to increase the amount of usable green space for public, community and semi-private use: paved areas (currently 40% of the site area) are reduced and bio-diversity encouraged with new planting; semi-private green spaces are developed, including community allotments, play areas and lawns, with measures for sustainable living such as recycling centres, secure bike stores, rain-water storage, composting and garden sheds.

To enable individual households to extend their homes, a number of design types were developed within a unifying framework of dimensions, form and materials, allowing for individual choice and visual variety. These offer a variety of possible options: a ‘winter garden’ to create a buffer zone between inside and outside, a new WC, extra storage, larger kitchen or an additional single bedroom.
