This proposal for the redevelopment of a 500 hectare redundant airfield was commended in an ideas competition organised by the CPRE. The airbase in North Oxfordshire had been decommissioned and a consortium selected by the MoD as a joint venture partner. The competition was held to stimulate ideas for sustainable redevelopment. Loader and Brown proposed medium density housing development providing 5,000 new dwellings. These proposals show how medium density housing can allow the majority of the site to remain as "green field", while strengthening the use of existing facilities, and re-establishing previously redundant infrastructure.
