Listed house retrofit

Highgate, London

This house at Holly Village in Highgate is Grade II*. External repairs and conservation were carried out as part of the first phase of the project. The second phase included the refurbishment of the internal finishes and fittings and the following retrofit measures:

• Insulation of the original suspended ground floor with Hemp fibre insulation and specialist membranes
• Strengthening and insulation of the first floor ceiling within the roof space, with Douglas Fir boards to provide a practical base for storage
• Replacement of non-original plaster with Diathonite, a lime and cork insulating plaster, with a lime based finish coat
• Continuous centralised mechanical ventilation, with the fan located in the roof space, extracting through a discreet vent in the slate roof.
